A fascinating conference at the RIBA in London yesterday afternoon (with a drink or two at the exhibition in the evening!) that centred around all things 'Real time'. There were a mixture of presenters, from the Epic (Unreal) team themselves to Zaha Hadid Architects and Heatherwick Studio.

A stand out part of the presentation for me was a live interview conducted with Santiago Calatrava's** son, Gabriel, via a virtual reality headset in a virtual representation of Calatrava's sculptural building, The Oculus, in New York. At first I assumed it was a fake - who would risk a software crash/internet gremlins in a live, collaborative VR interview in front of an eager, tech savvy audience? However, it soon proved to be very real and a fascinating way to conduct team discussions in a unique way. I want one.

Here's a small sample of the interview:-

After the talks there was plenty of opportunity to chat to the presenters about what is possible, and what will be possible in the very near future. It's a fascinating, ever changing world! We love being a part of it.

** I've always been a fan of Calatrava's sculptural engineering work, ever since my university days where I seem to remember photocopying an entire book in the uni library all about Calatrava as I couldn't afford to buy it myself!  Sorry Huddersfield Architecture Department!
